customized-gangster-tattooIn an era where it’s cool to be bad, tattoos in the Gangster or Prison category have gained massive amounts of popularity.  Tattooing on those who classify themselves as gangster is a common theme.

Guys, who are known for being tough, like gang members, consider the Gangster tattoo symbolic of strength.  Tattoos among this crowd are also used to represent their bond with one another to the world.  Because those living this gangster lifestyle usually have closer ties with the members of the gang than they do with their own family, these gangster style tattoos can be the representation of their devotion to the group.  The Tattoo then becomes the method by which they show their solidarity to one another.

If a gangster tattoo is to be considered authentic then it must be an original.  It should mean something and not just be some random drawing.  Often these thug or gangster tattoos are used to tell the world something personal about the person wearing the tattoos.  Commonly seen are beloved family members (living or dead), where you’re from, what groups you are affiliated with.

The Prison tattoo however came into popularity in a much different way.  Prison tattoos first gained notoriety when it was discovered that the Japanese were using them as markers to their past once they were freed.    These days the Prison tattoo is more commonly used among many bikers, bandits, and gypsies; circus artists have also been known to sport the Prison tattoo.

Some consider them a nuisance, while others go so far as to call them disgraceful.  It could be because these types of tattoos are known to be more catching.  It is also common to see these prison or gangster tattoos in visible places such as the neck, hands, or even face.  It is believed that those who wear the prison or gangster tattoos are at odds with their society.  Unlike other tattoos, the gangster tattoo and the prison tattoo are used as expressions of pride.

Hispanic gangs are known to use the Pacheco cross as a part of their design.  Most gang members have some sort of Gangster tattoo on their hands.  Phrases like ‘mi vida loco’ (my crazy life) or three dot symbols (meaning:  I care for nothing) are common amongst these particular gangs.

Nowadays tattoos are viewed as true artistry; as a result the world is a bit more accepting of these Prison or Gangster tattoos.   Gangster tattoos and Prison tattoos is just a type of tattoos people are getting.   These tattoos should by no means cause you to make negative judgments about those who are wearing them.
